In which I think out loud...
Jan. 16th, 2011 07:40 pmWriting is a process. A process that is different for each writer, and I might add, for each story. Bastard Prince has been a hellova process. I have learned so much about writing by pounding away at the keyboard day after day working on this thing.
My process has changed over time. I was once a pantser I guess you could say. Outlines gave me headaches. They confused me (blame it on ignoring my English classes in HS). My stories are complex. And I realized recently that there is no way I can keep it all straight without an outline. It took me six years of trial and error to figure this out.
Thats not to say that everyone needs to outline, for me, for MY style of writing, I NEED an outline or else I get lost, bored and sidetracked.
Bastard Prince has had several incarnations. And there is some damn good writing which, well I really don't want to lose it so I have copied, pasted, tweaked several scenes to fit into the new version. It is giving me practice with editing.
I really love this story. I think that I am doing it justice this time around.
